Chautauqua Institute's Lakeside Bell Tower

Teddy Roosevelt once was quoted as saying, "Chautauqua is the most American thing in America."  Chautauqua was an adult movement in the U.S. in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  It brought entertainment, culture, and more for the community.  The Chautauqua Institution is still providing those things on the shores of Lake Chautauqua in New York State during the summertime.  Paul and I spent some time there last week.  We enjoyed its quiet beauty.  It seemed like a jewel from the Past.

Welcome to Chautauqua, the World's Learning Center.  In the late 19th century in 1874, the institute was founded on the belief that everyone "has a right to be all that he or she can be---to know all that he or she can know."  These assemblies continue today, offering lectures, classes, workshops, special events, and performances throughout the summer.  The season runs from late June through late August.

Summertime can be a mix of many things.  For me this July, I'll remember a vacation spent in Chautauqua.  Its people and places will linger with me in warm summer memories.  I'd recommend it as a destination.  It was full of Happy Discoveries for me.

~~~Hope you're having a Happy Summer!  Please write and let me know about your discoveries and adventures.  I'd love to hear from you! ~~~Cindy
